1979 Toyota FJ40 - $51,000 - Lake Mary, FL - Up for sale in the Orlando Florida showroom is one of the cleanest and world renowned off road legend the 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Cruiser This one has 0 miles since its complete frame off restoration with undercoat in every part of the chassis as well as a complete engine restoration. These trucks are legendary in off-roading groups for being reliable and extremely agile due to their short wheel base. Given their track record in some pretty inhospitable places well its easy to see why these are growing tremendously in market value. However all those wonderful features also makes finding a nice one challenging since so many of these trucks have been bashed abused and just plain used up in the years before they were on the collectors A-list. Fortunately this one is extremely clean with a awesome electric Yellow paint job and white top that looks bound for the wilderness. Youll find the interior is far more civilized than youd expect for a world traveler like this with comfortable high-back bucket seats. Twin folding seats in back expand passenger capacity and with durable non-slip rubber mat on the floor you can get dirty without worrying about cleaning carpets when you get home. Toyotas 4.2-liter inline-six powered Land Cruisers for decades and provides the torque necessary for off road excitement; its proven itself time and again when conditions were less than nice. Around town its smooth and torquey and the gear ratios are exactly right to make it feel quick and agile. The engine bay is highly detailed and its nice to see the factory equipment is intact. Backed by a 4 speed transmission and sitting on BFG All Terrain tires this Land Cruiser for sale is sure please the traveler in all of us! 1970 Toyota FJ40 - $68,000 - Gladstone, NJ -

125 bhp, 3,878 cc OHV inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, front and rear semi-elliptical leaf spring suspension with single-acting hydraulic tubular-type shock absorbers, full-floating front axle and semi-floating rear axle with hypoid drive, and front and rear hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 90 in.

Comprehensive restoration completed in April 2016
Just 25 miles since completion; never shown
New interior, including rear jump seats and floor mats

The Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser has quickly become an icon of all-wheel drive and the all-terrain vehicle segment of the hobby. Toyota first developed the BJ Series in 1951 at the request of the United States Military. Officials were seeking an all-wheel-drive utility vehicle to be used by soldiers and military police stationed in Japan. Series production did not commence until 1953, from which point forward the vehicles were constantly upgraded and refined. Beginning in 1954, the Land Cruiser name appeared starting with the Series 20 introduced in 1954 and the Series 40 in 1960. U.S. imports began in 1963, quickly becoming Toyota’s best-sellers in the United States during the mid-1960s.

As time passed, Land Cruisers were offered in various wheelbases along with several different styles, including a pickup as well as hard and soft top configurations. Even a station wagon was available with seating up to seven passengers. Both Toyota gasoline and Hino diesel engines were eventually offered, though most were equipped with gasoline-powered “F-series” inline six-cylinder engines, such as this example. The model continues to exist today, though it has moved considerably upscale, and is Toyota’s longest-running nameplate.

The frame-off restoration of this beautiful example, painted Olympus White over Freeborn Red, was completed in April 2016 by the consignor, who purchased it from an avid 4 × 4 enthusiast. It has never been shown and has completed just 25 miles since restoration. Beginning with an Arizona vehicle, it was disassembled and given a detailed restoration to a high standard. The consignor notes that all body panels are extremely straight, with expert fit and finish. The engine compartment and undercarriage are nicely detailed with all correct and original ID tags.

A new, correct black vinyl interior has been fitted, along with rear jump seats, floor mats, and a refinished dash with correct Toyota 4 × 4 operating instruction plates. Five new Goodyear tires ride on refinished white rims, contrasting with the red exterior while matching the white roof. Features include right- and left-hand outside rear view mirrors, oil filter, heater, front locking hubs, and power-assisted brakes. The consignor reports that the engine is a “strong runner” and that this exceptional FJ40 runs and drives beautifully, as one would expect of an enduring icon.

CLASSIC CAR RESTORATIONS:

The termrestoration in context to the vintage car world has taken on a definition of its own. For some people, a restoration is simply painting a car and replacing items as needed, while for others, restoration means an extensive disassembly and overhaul, with each piece getting rebuilt or replaced.

As a consumer, it's important to understand the basics of restoration levels for it can impact classic car values substantially. There are hundreds of ways to restore a vintage car or truck including but not limited to the following: i). Frame off restoration. Body of vehicle is completely taken off the frame and restoration includes body, frame, floor pans (top and bottom), etc. these restorations tend to be extensive and costly. ii). Rotisserie restoration. These restorations are when the body (or body and frame on a unibody vehicle) are disassembled and restored utilizing a rotisserie. Body of vehicle is completely taken off the frame and restoration includes body, frame, floor pans (top and bottom), etc. these restorations tend to be extensive and costly and iii). Cosmetic or driver quality restoration. These restoration are typically limited to cosmetic items including paint and body, interior, trim and emblems, etc. Within the three levels or restoration mentioned above, there can be varying quality from an in the garage / amateur restoration to a high dollar professional concours restoration. There is a universal 100 point grading system rating classic car conditions ranging from 100 being excellent to 20 being unrestorable.

In addition to the levels of restoration above, it's important to understand the type of restoration as well for it can also impact value substantially. Type of restorations include: i). Factory or stock restoration. This type of restoration is geared towards restoring the car or truck to stock specs from the factory as if it were new. These types of restorations use original or oem (original equipment manufacturer) where possible. Factory original restorations tend to bring the highest dollars from collectors. ii). Custom restoration. These types of restorations are geared towards builder preference over factory stock. These can be refereed to as customs or hot rods. Typically these vehicles will have custom paint work, aftermarket wheels, suspension upgrades, power plant transplants, etc. A specific sector of custom restoration vehicles is pro-touring or restomod / restomods which are custom built with a more modern street performance and creature comforts than the original factory vehicle.

Please note that WWVA is not a restoration shop nor do we restore vehicles to any degree.

For questions on what type or level of restoration of any of our vehicles in inventory please call our vintage sales expert today at 1-877-422-2640.

Own this vintage FJ at a fraction of the build cost. The cost of parts and restoration of these vehicles are increasing daily. They are not making any more and, therefore, they are becoming more rare by the day. Buy one complete and ensure your investment for the future. Doing a restoration / customization project on a FJ like this would cost over $35K not including the vehicle itself. Don't do the work yourself, get one finished for roughly half of the cost of building it yourself! An excellent investment and something you can enjoy daily. Collectible vintage vehicles have historically appreciated at a rate greater than that stock market, gold and other arts and collectibles as documented by many articles and auction result tracking.

We provide approximately 75 HD images, and an HD video, in every one of our listings.  Very few companies offer this much detail.  We spend significant time inspecting and disclosing detailed items on all of our vehicles; however, at the end of the day, we are not you... we highly suggest that you come and inspect the vehicle.

The information contained in this ad is solely for convenience.  The description is an opinion only and should not be considered a complete description of any or all faults; it may not be relied upon nor taken as fact or otherwise a representation or warranty of any sort.  Please note, we did NOT build or restore the vehicle. Vehicles are sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS with all faults known/unknown and with no implied warranty.  Unless shown in the photographs, we do NOT have documentation, receipts, or photographs of the vehicle listed.

We do not recommend driving a classic car home. Many classic cars are not driven often and tend to sit for long periods of time making them unsuitable for cross-country road trips. We strongly recommend shipping the vehicle.

We sell our vehicles mileage-exempt, meaning we do not know the actual, original miles. The information listed in the ad is based on the current odometer reading or from rebuild information provided by the builder, and cannot be used as fact.

Most of these vehicles do not have Carfax or Autocheck history reports; unless the vehicle is 1981 or newer, a Carfax or Autocheck history will not exist.

This vehicle is being sold by Worldwide Vintage Autos. All of our prices include a 30 temporary license plate, a clear Colorado title and VIN verification to ensure no surprises during the registration of your vehicle. We do not charge any additional dealer and handling fees!

Any vehicle listed in auction format may be sold, and removed from auction, at any time.

Successful Participant in the 2016 Copperstate Overland Rally
Complete with Original Owner's Manual, Tool Roll, Jack & Spares

The Toyota Land Cruiser, in its many sizes and configurations has had a long and successful history of reliable service through the most rugged of conditions. From its humble beginnings as a rural police vehicle in Japan, the Toyota FJ40's reputation has spread worldwide. Collectors have recognized the value of Toyota's back-country workhorse, and their enthusiasm is very apparent.

Offered here is a truly exceptional example of Toyota's renowned FJ40. FJ40251614 was sold new to Arizona, USA where it has resided its entire life, dry and corrosion free. According to previous caretakers, the local Toyota dealership (from where it was purchased) installed rear plastic fender flairs, BF Goodrich sand tires and a reserve gas tank for adventures in the local sand dunes. The truck remained in the area as a weekend driver, until a friend-of-a-friend eventually acquired the FJ and decided to commission the truck to a full nut-and-bolt restoration to its former cosmetic glory. Starting with a remarkably original, complete and well maintained example, the year-long restoration was fairly straightforward, while the truck is said to remain about 90% of its original components and metal, down the leaf spring shackles.

The FJ retains its original, numbers-matching engine and colors with improved drivability for everyday use. Paint and upholstery were kept stock in appearance, retaining original glass, trim, roll bar, jumper seats and components. The motor is now fitted with a Weber DGAS carburetor conversion, coated long tube header and manifold for better power and reliability, while the original Aisan carburetor, cast manifold and airbox are included. In addition, the air conditioning system was upgraded with modern R134a refrigerant and compressor – turn-key ready for comfortable city driving or overland adventures out of the box. The body has a clear paint protection film to further protect its appearance.

This FJ40 is certain to be a hit on the show field, though would be equally at home if put to work. Exceptionally restored, it comes complete with factory original 1977 Owner's Manual, Tool Roll, Jack, Spare and Emergency Equipment for concours display – as-well-as spare consumable backup parts for off-roading, in which the FJ has already proven its worth during the 2016 Copperstate Overland Rally. We are proud to offer this great FJ40 now available for worldwide purchase and delivery, we are happy to help you arrange finance and shipping options with our many trusted vendors.

1972 Toyota FJ40 Hardtop Land Cruiser

  • Dry Arizona, Nevada and California truck, driven by previous owner for nine years!
  • Frame-off restoration – completed in November 2008 with new paint, weather stripping, hood latches, side marker and tail lights, clutch and tires
  • 3.8L inline six-cylinder F engine
  • Four-speed manual transmission
  • Yellow exterior with white hardtop
  • Black seats with yellow painted metal interior
  • Fold-up rear jumpseats
  • Rare rear heater
  • Pioneer CD Receiver, two speakers mounted over driver, front passenger
  • Documentation includes owner’s manual, stereo owner’s manual, assorted receipts, parts and service tickets and miscellaneous, related papers

Highly sought-after in the classic 4×4 market, MotoeXotica is thrilled to present another fully restored Toyota FJ40 Hardtop Land Cruiser. This one had a frame-off restoration in dry Arizona and California completed in November 2008 by its previous owner of nine years, with all new paint and rubber weather stripping plus the following new parts – hood latches, nuts and bolts, side marker and tail lights, clutch and tires.

According to 2012 emails from the seller, a Mr. Painter, he originally bought the truck because of its lack of blemishes and no major body repairs had been made. The seller said the only non-stock items on the truck are the headers intake manifold, exhaust, stereo, stereo shelf, tow hitch and front shoulder belts. He said after the restoration, the truck has only needed general tune-ups and engine oil topped off. The engine compression is okay and truck still retains its original ignition system points. A previous owner replaced the alternator. He goes on to explain the cooling system is in great condition and the new headers allow the engine to run cooler. The intake manifold was replaced along with the headers. All steering joints and tie rods were replaced. The transmission and transfer case are in very strong condition.

Painter said all of the truck’s original smog equipment, pump, bracket and air rail were all removed. California is smog-exempt for the 1972 model year and Painter wrote that the truck runs better and gets better fuel economy without the smog equipment.

The paint on this sunny rover was professionally applied and is in very good condition, with only a few blemishes visible upon close inspection. The glass panels are clear and intact. The vehicle’s lights are in one piece, clear and work as designed. The truck rolls on BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, 33×10.50/R15, front and rear surrounding Toyota hubcaps.

All body panels are straight and look nearly impeccable and the bumpers are in great shape. The seats are in very good shape, as is the matching carpet. The headliner is in good shape while the instrument panel with its yellow painted metal sections is in near-excellent shape with all gauges working as designed. The steering wheel is in very good order and the door skins are in great shape. The fold-away rear jump seats look great and there is a rear heater plus safety device. The mirrors, shifter and transfer case lever are in good shape and completing the interior is a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD mounted above the driver and front passenger seats.

Service records indicate the following – Painter bought four new rims for the truck (date unknown); in September 2015, a Mr. Coffey had the right front wheel cylinder replaced, new one adjusted and bled; h ordered passenger door lock and paddle handle; in August 2015, a new steering gear box was installed; in July 2015, a new latch lock assembly was ordered; in June 2015, five new BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires were installed/added as spare; November 2013, clutch assembly and rear main seal replaced, resurfaced flywheel; November 2008, a heater hose replaced and new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor installed; October 2008, various electrical work performed; majority of tickets dated 2006, 2007 and 2008 are related to the truck’s restoration. In March 2006, truck’s previous set of tires installed; more tickets for parts written before 3/2006; March 2002, carburetor vacuum hose routing inspected on just-installed carb. The earliest ticket available is from October 16, 1982, when a Mr. Cutler out of Prescott Valley, Arizona, had four new tires replaced on the truck.

The Toyota J40 is the model designation for a Toyota Land Cruiser 40 series made from 1960 until 1984. Most 40 series Land Cruisers were built as 2-door SUVs with slightly larger dimensions than a Jeep CJ.

The model was available as the FJ40 series (with F engines) and made legends out of the FJ and the F engine. Its first production year was 1960 and it debuted with a short wheelbase version. The FJ40 was produced until 1984. One of the key features of the FJ40 is its folding jump seats behind the front two seats, making it easy to squeeze in more passengers or cargo. Though relatively sparse on creature comforts, the FJ40 nonetheless captured the attention of buyers the world over impressed by its reliability, sturdiness and off-roading ability. The FJ40 comes either as a soft top or a hardtop.

While not legal in some countries, most J40 series vehicles could have their roof and doors removed. With a folding windshield this allowed for complete open-air experience.

The J40 Series also featured folding jump seats behind the passenger and drivers seats. These folding seats not only made carrying another 2 passengers possible, but also allowed for maximum cargo space, as opposed to the folding rear seat in the Jeep CJ series.

Original factory winches were driven directly from the transfer case (known as P.T.O. or power take off) powered by the engine. Later models had an optional electric winch.

Documentation includes owner’s manual, stereo owner’s manual, assorted receipts, parts and service tickets and miscellaneous, related papers.

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 85,177 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear title.

Sold new in Nevada, this beautiful 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser remained with its original owner until 2013, when it was discovered with just 39,000 miles from new in uncommonly original condition. This FJ40 hardtop has recently emerged from a comprehensive bare-metal, bare-frame restoration in its attractive original color of Freeborn Red, and has only had 600 miles of use since.  This FJ is eligible for the Copperstate Overland.  The original side-facing rear seats and new front seats from Cool Cruisers of Texas were reupholstered in correct gray and black vinyl.  With such modest mileage the engine, transmission, and balance of the drivetrain required only fresh seals, gaskets, and fluids. There is a new OEM starter, clutch, and radiator, and the original alternator was rebuilt, all the work being carried out by a Toyota certified master technician who works exclusively with FJ40s.  The suspension was freshened with OEM Toyota parts including shock absorbers, tie rods, and the front stabilizer shock. This FJ40 is fitted with new Toyo Open Country All-Terrain tires mounted on original steel wheels, and is supplied with a jack, tool kit, its original owner’s manual, and trouble lamp.  Now in the care of just its third owner from new, this outstanding FJ40 is a professionally restored example, retaining original components, and is deserving of careful consideration.  We are happy to consider trades, and can assist with shipping worldwide.  Contact us with any questions you may have.  608-354-6787.
