1969 Toyota FJ40 - $45,900 - Atlanta, GA -

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, a recent ACC Toyota custom build with only 3,000 miles on an all-new drivetrain.  Engine, accessories, a/c, transmission, steering, brakes and tires are all new within the last three years.

Under the hood is a roller vortec 350 fuel injected crate motor mated to a 4L60E overdrive automatic transmission. Both the engine management and the automatic transmission are programmable. The truck also has new power disc brakes, new power steering and a new Vintage Air a/c setup. The suspension is also all new, with an Ironman lift and foam cell shocks. ACC's workmanship is second to none -- the quality of the custom fabrication and the overall fit and performance are orders of magnitude better than your run-of-the-mill 350 swap. It runs well and makes great power.

Clad in Dune Beige, the body is straight and paint is driver quality with some minor flaws; floor pans and rockers are solid with no known rust issues. Glass is good, rubbers are newer and in great shape. Brand new BF Goodrich 33x10.50 Mud Terrain tires are on restored factory steel wheels with correct hub caps in good condition. Custom spare tire mount and rear bumper with integrated lighting. Upgraded LED headlights.

The interior shows well with new seat upholstery on the front bench and rear jump seats; doors are in excellent condition, as are the dash and headliner. Attention to detail abounds -- ACC has cleverly manufactured an updated version of the factory gear shift instructions and affixed it to the glove box door. The fuel injection computer is inside the glove box; a locking console runs across the top of the dash. New AutoMeter gauges retain a period-appropriate look, and a stereo is concealed out-of-view (there's no tuner, but you can play whatever music you like via an aux input cable). Custom roll bar was designed not to be visible from outside the truck. Three-point belts for the front seats.

This example has a great look, inside and out. It's nice, but not so nice that you're afraid to drive it, and the drivetrain upgrades make it practical for regular use. A rare opportunity to own a tastefully updated and customized FJ for far less than the build cost. Motoexotica Classic Cars presents this stunning Voodoo Blue 1976 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser was fully restored by a service shop family in Topeka Kansas over the course of three years, and was finished into the spectacular FJ40 that it is today.. If you want the very best Land Cruiser we’ve ever seen, this is definitely it. The Kansas family owned the Land Cruiser for over ten years and out of three of those years they performed extensive full nut and bolt restoration with a true cost of over $110,000+. Every part and piece was either ordered NOS parts from Lewis Toyota in Topeka or Specter Off-Road the Land Cruiser parts specialist in California (all receipts included). Over $30k alone was invested in the body work and paint by complete disassembly and media blasting everything, the FJ was then reassembled with all new stainless steel hardware. Overall this is a gorgeous correct restoration with some very tasteful modifications added such as Emu 2? suspension lift, rear disc brakes and 17? American Racing wheels. The market on the FJ has been very solid for the past five years and the top market trucks with top quality restorations sell fast because the value curve just continues to rise. This has made the vintage Land Cruiser’s excellent long term investment trucks that you can actually use and enjoy occasional.

Wearing show quality Voodoo Blue paint with a white hardtop, this near perfect Fj40 is hard to miss. The exterior paint is extremely brilliant and all the trim pieces are in excellent overall condition, as expected with the investment someone made into this Land Cruiser’s restoration. All of the factory rocker panel seams and factory body lines have been retained. The glass panels are in excellent condition and all rubber seals, rubber bumpers, window slides, window felt, window mounting rubber body bushings and body mounts have been completely replaced. When the Land Cruiser was reassembled over 90% of all the hardware was upgraded to stainless steel, basically over $5,000 in nuts and bolts alone! The vehicle lights are all in like-new condition. The original hardtop was completely dissembled, painted and rebuilt. The interior floors were coated in a tasteful, semi-gloss black bed liner for future protection, the underbody and wheel wells were also coated.

Inside, the black-and-blue interior is eye-catching. The front correct gray deluxe bucket seats and rear jump seats are in excellent order with upgraded three-point seatbelts in the front and updated lap belts in the back. There is no carpet, a wise decision in a vehicle made for roughing it, but the floors look new anyway and come with removable rubber mats. The vehicle’s roll bar and the blue metal instrument panel with its black passenger grab bar just gleams. Just below that bar, on the glove box door, is a diagram with gearshift instructions. The instrument area has been upgraded with a Autometer tachometer that is attached to the steering column. The original, three-spoke steering wheel is in good shape while the door panels, mirror glass and shifter are all in excellent condition. In the rear are black flip-up jump seats and a rarely seen rear heater to keep the kids or Fido from freezing during your fishing trip to Lake Superior. During restoration the front and rear heaters were rebuilt with new seals, linkage bushings and new heater core. Finishing off this truck’s interior is a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with rear speaker boxes.

The original 2F inline six engine was rebuilt using MAF forged 9:1 compression pistons and the rotating assembly was balanced and a new Toyota harmonic balancer installed. The intake has been upgraded to a Weber 36/36 carburetor and the exhaust side was upgraded to a Man-A-Fre chrome performance header. All the motor mounts have been replaced and the engine is now cooled with a MAF aluminum radiator. A later model FJ40 larger cooling fan with fan clutch was added to quiet down freeway driving. The factory points distributor was swapped out for a nice aluminum HEI distributor. Alternator, water pump, hoses, clamps, and just about everything else has all been rebuilt or replaced with quality parts under the hood!

Underneath this exquisite Land Cruiser the frame was professionally sand blasted and then powder coated black. The rear differential was pulled and rebuilt with new gears and bearings and the front differential had new seals, outer bearings, cv joints and the steering knuckles were rebuilt. The drive and prop shafts were rebuild with new u-joints and balanced. The FJ-40 is equipped with brand new 4 piston front brakes and the rear factory drums were upgraded to disc brakes, all brakes lines were upgraded with new stainless steel braided lines and the hard steel lines were upgraded to new coated lines. No details were overlooked during this restoration so even the drive line parking brake was upgraded to a caliper/disc setup.

The suspension was completely upgraded with leaf springs, shocks, and steering damper all from Old Man Emu. The suspension upgrades lifted the trick a tasteful 2 inches and the rear differential has caster shims installed to maintain the correct driveshaft angle. The front springs are installed with Man-A-Fre shackle reversal kit which also improves on road handling and off road capability. The truck rides on Mickey Thompson Baja Mountain tires, sized 265/70R17 all around and surrounding polished, 17-inch American Racing Mojave Eight-hole wheels. Both tires and wheels are in like new condition. .

Documentation includes $110,000 in restoration receipts and photo album book depicting the vehicle at various stages of its transformation.

Competition to this Toyota in 1976 included International-Harvester’s Scout, Ford’s Bronco, Jeep CJ,  and Land Rover’s 88 Series IIa.

1976 Toyota FJ40 - $14,000 - Boiling Springs, SC -

This is an very nice unmolested Toyota FJ40.  I bought it to restore to original because it was in such nice shape already for the money.  This is a keeper because its was the first year that Toyota put power brakes on the FJ40. It also has power steering.  It has the famous cast iron straight six motor .  The original owner was an older gentleman that used it to tool around town and his farm in SC.  I bought it thinking that I would have time to enjoy it. I have a busy schedule and I bet I haven't driven it more than an hour in the last year that I have owned it.  The paint is pretty slick.  I think he got it painted (original color) shortly before sold it.  Original size New tires and factory rims and hub caps  (very rare that it has these items)  They are NOS items from Toyota. I also bought from Toyota new mirrors and turn signals.  As I said I was going to make like new and enjoy. Seats in great condition too.  It does not have the top.  The last owner said it stayed garaged and never needed or used it and sold it.  It does have a bimini top with a roll back sunroof from Spector off-road.  .....Any questions just shoot me a message and I will answer.   ...I was told the mileage is as on the speedometer but since I haven't had since new I can't in good faith tell you that's correct.  However, there are some maintenance receipts that would reflect that... The things I have done to it is as follows

-complete break job all the way around.

-fixed any leaks.

-complete tune up from Toyota dealership

-NOS side mirrors

-NOS turn signal lights

-NOS Toyota hub caps

-new tires

-repair/replaced emergency break

-new muffler

-new belts

-Pertronix electronic ignition

- new matching spare tire and rim

- new Spector Off-Road vinyl doors with zip out windows

I have receipts for all mentioned repairs.    I know I could get more based on quality as a restorer but I just want to get my money back and move on.  I have $15,500 to $16k in it, so hope all works out for both of us.   It will be for sale locally and may end the auction in the event that it is sold locally.  thanks..

1972 Toyota FJ40 Hardtop Land Cruiser

  • Rare rear heater
  • Pioneer CD Receiver, two speakers mounted over driver, front passenger

Highly sought-after in the classic 4×4 market, MotoeXotica is thrilled to present another fully restored Toyota FJ40 Hardtop Land Cruiser. This one had a frame-off restoration in dry Arizona and California completed in November 2008 by its previous owner of nine years, with all new paint and rubber weather stripping plus the following new parts – hood latches, nuts and bolts, side marker and tail lights, clutch and tires.

According to 2012 emails from the seller, a Mr. Painter, he originally bought the truck because of its lack of blemishes and no major body repairs had been made. The seller said the only non-stock items on the truck are the headers intake manifold, exhaust, stereo, stereo shelf, tow hitch and front shoulder belts. He said after the restoration, the truck has only needed general tune-ups and engine oil topped off. The engine compression is okay and truck still retains its original ignition system points. A previous owner replaced the alternator. He goes on to explain the cooling system is in great condition and the new headers allow the engine to run cooler. The intake manifold was replaced along with the headers. All steering joints and tie rods were replaced. The transmission and transfer case are in very strong condition.

Painter said all of the truck’s original smog equipment, pump, bracket and air rail were all removed. California is smog-exempt for the 1972 model year and Painter wrote that the truck runs better and gets better fuel economy without the smog equipment.

The paint on this sunny rover was professionally applied and is in very good condition, with only a few blemishes visible upon close inspection. The glass panels are clear and intact. The vehicle’s lights are in one piece, clear and work as designed. The truck rolls on BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, 33×10.50/R15, front and rear surrounding Toyota hubcaps.

All body panels are straight and look nearly impeccable and the bumpers are in great shape. The seats are in very good shape, as is the matching carpet. The headliner is in good shape while the instrument panel with its yellow painted metal sections is in near-excellent shape with all gauges working as designed. The steering wheel is in very good order and the door skins are in great shape. The fold-away rear jump seats look great and there is a rear heater plus safety device. The mirrors, shifter and transfer case lever are in good shape and completing the interior is a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD mounted above the driver and front passenger seats.

Service records indicate the following – Painter bought four new rims for the truck (date unknown); in September 2015, a Mr. Coffey had the right front wheel cylinder replaced, new one adjusted and bled; h ordered passenger door lock and paddle handle; in August 2015, a new steering gear box was installed; in July 2015, a new latch lock assembly was ordered; in June 2015, five new BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires were installed/added as spare; November 2013, clutch assembly and rear main seal replaced, resurfaced flywheel; November 2008, a heater hose replaced and new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor installed; October 2008, various electrical work performed; majority of tickets dated 2006, 2007 and 2008 are related to the truck’s restoration. In March 2006, truck’s previous set of tires installed; more tickets for parts written before 3/2006; March 2002, carburetor vacuum hose routing inspected on just-installed carb. The earliest ticket available is from October 16, 1982, when a Mr. Cutler out of Prescott Valley, Arizona, had four new tires replaced on the truck.

The Toyota J40 is the model designation for a Toyota Land Cruiser 40 series made from 1960 until 1984. Most 40 series Land Cruisers were built as 2-door SUVs with slightly larger dimensions than a Jeep CJ.

The model was available as the FJ40 series (with F engines) and made legends out of the FJ and the F engine. Its first production year was 1960 and it debuted with a short wheelbase version. The FJ40 was produced until 1984. One of the key features of the FJ40 is its folding jump seats behind the front two seats, making it easy to squeeze in more passengers or cargo. Though relatively sparse on creature comforts, the FJ40 nonetheless captured the attention of buyers the world over impressed by its reliability, sturdiness and off-roading ability. The FJ40 comes either as a soft top or a hardtop.

While not legal in some countries, most J40 series vehicles could have their roof and doors removed. With a folding windshield this allowed for complete open-air experience.

The J40 Series also featured folding jump seats behind the passenger and drivers seats. These folding seats not only made carrying another 2 passengers possible, but also allowed for maximum cargo space, as opposed to the folding rear seat in the Jeep CJ series.

Original factory winches were driven directly from the transfer case (known as P.T.O. or power take off) powered by the engine. Later models had an optional electric winch.

Documentation includes owner’s manual, stereo owner’s manual, assorted receipts, parts and service tickets and miscellaneous, related papers.

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 85,177 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear title.

1978 Toyota FJ40 - $49,000 - Venice, CA -

This excellent, fully restored, numbers matching, and original spec FJ40 has been in our family for 24 years.  I’m sorry to see it go.  A US 1978 vintage (VIN FJ40-294408), it underwent a complete ground up, nut and bolt, body-off restoration by famed restoration house Hibernia Auto Restorations in New Jersey in 2002.  The restoration process was total.  Frame and chassis media blasted and gloss powder coated.  A '74 California body tub was shipped in, completely stripped, blasted, repaired and repainted in the factory blue you see today.  Any minor differences that existed between the two years were corrected.

Engine was rebuilt 2 years prior to restoration.  Transmission and Transfer case rebuilt.  Axles rebuilt.  3.73 gears (introduced in ’79 to the four-speed) are one of only several modifications made to make her more comfortable and less stressed on the freeway.  Our restoration was done to be historically accurate and she can be returned to complete original with just wheels and seats.  Currently, however, the Recaro sport seats are a vast improvement over the OEM torture devices.

Not a single detail went untouched, and 14 years later, she still looks almost brand new.  She runs clean, burns zero oil, keeps her oil looking and feeling fresh between changes, has no leaks, passes CA smog with a leaned out carb (standard fare out here), and has a clean California title.

Hibernia does restorations on some pretty rare and high-end metal, and they do amazing work.  This reconstruction was impeccable.  14 years later, she is both beautiful in the flesh, and still sits prominently on Hibernia’s gallery page.  It was one of their special projects.  By special, I mean challenging and expensive.

She was an east coast car had been everywhere and acquired some body rot.  But my father and I were the sentimental type.  We had bought it together in ’92, and it was my first car.  We worked on it together.  I drove it all over the country.  It got me though blizzards, into remote areas, to school in Colorado, and then New Hampshire.  Eventually, I needed something bigger and more practical, so it rested a while.  If you’ve ever lived with one of these things, you know how they get under your skin.  They’re so overbuilt, so unstoppable, so fun to drive that they’re completely infectious – and if you’re reading this, you probably understand the folly of a sentimental resto.

I’m proud we saved her, but it was a folly nonetheless.  However, that’s to the benefit of whoever ends up with her.  We put so much into it (deep into six figures) that my father locked it away in his garage, and rarely drove it.  It took me the better part of a decade to convince him to ship it out to me in California.  I’ve had her out here in Los Angeles (currently Venice) for four years.  During that time, I’ve driven it regularly, but sparingly, and fettled her to near perfection.

She’s not an absolutely perfect time capsule, but she’s close.  The frame, while perfectly sound, has scars from pre-restoration pitting (no current rust), and there are a couple of paint imperfections.

The end result is probably the nicest, highest quality 'non-show' FJ you'll find in Southern California.  You really must see it to believe it.  Take the roof off and enjoy, without worrying about someone breathing on it wrong.  Hit the trails.  I don’t, but you can.  I’ve had multiple mechanics say it's the nicest one they've seen, period.  It turns heads, and garners smiles everywhere it goes.  It could be brought back to show quality, but as it is, it’s just a beautiful, fun, well built, classic, bulldozing Jeep killer.  Every time I get in it, it's love all over again.

Recent service items:  (past few years - receipts for all)  New carburetor, new steering box (wasn’t replaced during resto and I didn't like the feel), new manifold gasket, new viscous fan clutch, new smog pump, new clutch slave and master cylinders, timing gear service, water pump, rear axle shaft adjust, and all fluids (obviously), among some other minor details.

Currently addressing:  A cooling fan that appears to be running too often.  An exhaust leak I suspect at the header and exhaust flange.  An alignment is on the books for the next oil change.

We never intended to sell her, but the unforeseeable happens, and circumstances and desires change.  Her name is Moe, and she need a new family to go to – one that will love her as much as we do.

The information contained in this ad is solely for convenience.  The description is an opinion only and should not be considered a complete description of any or all faults; it may not be relied upon nor taken as fact or otherwise a representation or warranty of any sort.  Please note, we did NOT build or restore the vehicle. Vehicles are sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS with all faults known/unknown and with no implied warranty.  Unless shown in the photographs, we do NOT have documentation, receipts, or photographs of the vehicle listed.

We do not recommend driving a classic car home. Many classic cars are not driven often and tend to sit for long periods of time making them unsuitable for cross-country road trips. We strongly recommend shipping the vehicle.

Unless otherwise noted, we sell our vehicles mileage-exempt, meaning we do not know the actual, original miles. The information listed in the ad is based on the current odometer reading or from rebuild information provided by the builder, and cannot be used as fact.

Most of these vehicles do not have Carfax or Autocheck history reports; unless the vehicle is 1981 or newer, a Carfax or Autocheck history will not exist.

This vehicle is being sold by Worldwide Vintage Autos. All of our prices include a 30 temporary license plate, a clear Colorado title and VIN verification to ensure no surprises during the registration of your vehicle. We do not charge any additional dealer and handling fees!

Any vehicle listed in auction format may be sold, and removed from auction, at any time.

1982 Toyota FJ40 - $92,000 - Woodside, -

This is a frame off restoration of a US spec 1982 Fj40 Land Cruiser.   (imported south American Fj's are not the same)

It has only 125,000 miles on original 2F with all emissions equipment intact. Passed CA SMOG with flying colors. Very strong running original 2F. Just tuned-up with new plugs, cap/rotor, and rebuilt carburetor. It is  equipped with factory power steering and front disc brakes.

Late model FJ40 (8/1980 and newer) uses the upgraded 4-speed and "split-case" from an FJ60. Much stronger and quieter.  There are no official numbers of fj40 brought to US market in 1982.  It's been said that between 1,000-1,500 were actually  brought to market here.  Only around 300 1983 Fj40's were brought to US market in 1983. Making this 1982 FJ40  rare in there own right being one of the last full production year.

Being a “un cut” CA fj40 it had minimal rust prior to restoration.  Tub, body parts, frame amid undercarriage components were media blasted.  Tub & body parts were etch primed. Frame and undercarriage components (excluding axles) were powder coated satin black.  A new driver floor pan and rear sill panel were replaced.  Passenger side ambulance door received  new bottom sheet metal.  The body was repeatedly blocked and sanded to perfection.  The fj40  was color changed to a factor color "rustic green"  code 621.  Sprayed as a 2 stage  (color & clear coat)    Every part on or under this land cruiser was meticulously sanded and painted, powder coated or ceramic coated.  The land cruiser was put together with new and/ or OEM stainless or zinc plated hardware All weather striping rubber & felt is OEM Toyota new.   Seats were reupholstered.  Tuffy center console was installed.   Has a Alpine head unit.  5 new 33x10.5 BFG All Terrain tires on original steel wheels. Wheels  were painted  same white as  roof cap & bezel. Wheels were pinstriped  with matching rustic green paint.  Old Man Emu suspension (springs and shocks)  were installed.  New Catalytic converter and exhaust system was installed.

This is a beautiful restoration with no expense spared.   Inspections are welcomed.

1970 Toyota - $25,995 - Coral Springs, FL - Gateway Classic Cars of Ft. Lauderdale is proud to offer a pristine rugged 1970 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Toyota sits in the off road enthusiasts hall of fame thanks to this vehicle. Toyota rolled out the FJ40 series in 1960 and competed with the likes of Land Rovers Jeeps and later the Ford Bronco and Chevrolet K10. The FJ40 was a rugged two door 4x4 vehicle with amazing off road capabilities and rather primitive interior treatments. The hard top is removable so open air cruising is a possibility. The front sports two bucket seats and the rear has jump seats which can be folded aside for more cargo space. Under the hood of this particular Land Cruiser youll find an Inline 4.2l 6 cylinder engine which is backed by a 3 speed manual transmission and a 4x4 transfer case. Stout axle??s front and rear and original off road tires will take this thing just about anywhere you want to go. This FJ was lovingly restored in Columbia by the original owner. The restoration was nice and solid with almost every single screw and bolt touched and refurbished. All the underside and frame was rust free and the body panels painted their original Blue color. The engine and transmission were in great working order but received a good tune up leaving the vehicle ready for the trails! This FJ would make a great weekend runabout or a daily driver and will put most new 4x4s to shame off pavement. Vintage 4x4s are in high demand and most have rusted away to nothing. The Toyota Land Cruiser, in its many sizes and configurations has had a long and successful history of reliable service through the most rugged of conditions. From its humble beginnings as a rural police vehicle in Japan, the Toyota FJ40's reputation has spread worldwide. Collectors have recognized the value of Toyota's back-country workhorse, and their enthusiasm is very apparent.

Offered here is a truly exceptional example of Toyota's renowned FJ40. FJ40251614 was sold new to Arizona, USA where it has resided its entire life, dry and corrosion free. According to previous caretakers, the local Toyota dealership (from where it was purchased) installed rear plastic fender flairs, BF Goodrich sand tires and a reserve gas tank for adventures in the local sand dunes. The truck remained in the area as a weekend driver, until a friend-of-a-friend eventually acquired the FJ and decided to commission the truck to a full nut-and-bolt restoration to its former cosmetic glory. Starting with a remarkably original, complete and well maintained example, the year-long restoration was fairly straightforward, while the truck is said to remain about 90% of its original components and metal, down the leaf spring shackles.

The FJ retains its original, numbers-matching engine and colors with improved drivability for everyday use. Paint and upholstery were kept stock in appearance, retaining original glass, trim, roll bar, jumper seats and components. The motor is now fitted with a Weber DGAS carburetor conversion, coated long tube header and manifold for better power and reliability, while the original Aisan carburetor, cast manifold and airbox are included. In addition, the air conditioning system was upgraded with modern R134a refrigerant and compressor – turn-key ready for comfortable city driving or overland adventures out of the box. The body has a clear paint protection film to further protect its appearance.

This FJ40 is certain to be a hit on the show field, though would be equally at home if put to work. Exceptionally restored, it comes complete with factory original 1977 Owner's Manual, Tool Roll, Jack, Spare and Emergency Equipment for concours display – as-well-as spare consumable backup parts for off-roading, in which the FJ has already proven its worth during the 2016 Copperstate Overland Rally. We are proud to offer this great FJ40 now available for worldwide purchase and delivery, we are happy to help you arrange finance and shipping options with our many trusted vendors.
