Overview: For sale is a 1971 toyota FJ40 that has undergone a frame off restoration (non-rotisserie). All sections of the vehicle have been gone through. My intention during restoration was to try to maintain exterior/interior as original as possible but to upgrade key sections to enable this vehicle to be a daily driver. I have photos verifying my restoration progress and can speak with certainty that the frame is in excellent condition and all rust in the tub has been repaired with steel. I have looked at comps on the internet and cannot speak to the quality of comparators, but this is a rock solid vehicle that I believe is extremely competitive when considering the upgrades. This FJ has a clear mass title, is registered and is inspected. I’ve been using a daily driver on the weekends.
Specifics:
Chassis: Tub off restoration. Frame sandblasted and polycoated – verified no rust holes, frame solid throughout. Front disc brake conversion, new brake lines, rear drums rebuilt including new pads. Old man emu suspension (approx. 1-2” nominal lift). Did this so I wouldn’t run into issues with drive angles.
Drivetrain: New crate chevy 350 engine (edlebrock top end) – tried to keep as stock as possible. Shorty headers and custom dual exhaust. Aluminum radiator specific for the FJ40 – equipped with an electric fan with auto thermostat (stays at 190 in 90 F weather standing still in traffic). SM465 transmission (purchased – not out of junkyard) mated to the stock FJ40 transfer case via advanced adapters kit. New front and rear drive shafts. Rebuilt rear axle yolk.
Steering: power conversion – Toyota truck kit. Steering box placed in an excellent position (no through frame drilling/cutting) – used original linkage. Steers with ease.
Interior: 6-point roll bar cage. Twin bucket seats in front with slider adjusters and fold forward (passenger side to allow easier access to rear seat). Rear folding seat. Carpet throughout. Original top in excellent condition. Tuffy box armrest system. New audio system with kicker amplifier. Overhead sound box (mounted to roll bar) and twin 6x9 rear speakers.
Tires: 5 (including spare) brand new 31” procomp tires and aluminum rims.
I even have the original Jerry jug gasoline can
